Japan
Seiko was founded in Tokyo in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori opened a watch and clock shop, later building Japan's first wristwatch in 1913. Seiko shocked the Swiss watch industry by launching the Astron, the world's first quartz wristwatch, in 1969, and remains one of the few manufacturers that designs and builds everything from movements to cases in-house.
