Rolex was founded in London in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis as Wilsdorf and Davis, adopting the Rolex name in 1908 and relocating to Geneva in 1919. The brand pioneered the first waterproof wristwatch case (the Oyster, 1926) and the first self-winding mechanism with a perpetual rotor (1931), and remains the best-known luxury watch brand in the world.
