Patek Philippe was founded in Geneva in 1839 by Antoine Norbert de Patek and Franciszek Czapek, taking its current name in 1851 when watchmaker Adrien Philippe — inventor of the keyless winding mechanism — became a partner. Still independently owned by the Stern family since 1932, it remains one of the "Holy Trinity" of haute horlogerie and holds the record for the most complicated portable mechanical watch ever made, the Henry Graves Supercomplication.
