Germany
Glashütte Original's lineage traces to 1845, when Ferdinand Adolph Lange and fellow pioneers established precision watchmaking in Glashütte, Germany. East Germany's postwar government merged the town's watchmakers into the state-run VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (GUB) in 1951; after reunification, the company was privatized in 1994 as Glashütte Original, carrying the town's watchmaking traditions — including the three-quarter plate and hand-engraved balance cocks — forward under Swatch Group ownership since 2000.
